The infectious diseases hospital in Khmelnytsky will work more stable during emergency blackouts. A 60 kW solar power plant was installed in the institution. It will work together with batteries with a capacity of 40 kWh. Thanks to this, three buildings of the medical institution will have a stable power supply during power outages. Also, every year the hospital will be able to save UAH 400,000 on electricity fees.

“Every day we see targeted and systemic attacks by Russia on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and civilian objects, including hospitals. This jeopardizes the full operation of the medical system, and therefore the health of our patients. Therefore, the question of autonomy and energy independence of hospitals is critical. To ensure that patients can receive all the necessary medical care in full, even under critical conditions, we are working to strengthen energy security, in particular, by installing solar stations and energy equipment. Currently, more than 90 medical institutions are equipped with solar stations with panels. The installation of a solar power plant in the Khmelnytsky Infectious Diseases Hospital will allow it, in addition to stable operation during light problems, to also save its own money. ”

Viktor Lyashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine.

The project is implemented within the framework of the “Light for Hospitals” program implemented by the Yellowblue Force Foundation under the coordination of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and with the financial support of Citi Ukraine. The installation of the power plant was accompanied by NGO Ecoclub.

“Helping medical institutions is our priority. The Foundation will continue to support as many such projects as possible to ensure more stable operation of hospitals in the face of current challenges. ”

Julia Danishchuk, Head of the “Light for Hospitals” program at the YellowBlue Force Foundation.

Khmelnitsky infectious diseases hospital serves about 250 thousand people, most of whom are children. The hospital has пʼять departments, clinical diagnostic and bacteriological laboratories, X-ray and ultrasound rooms. In total – 150 beds for inpatient treatment, of which 11 – intensive care beds with artificial lung ventilation devices.

Given the conditions of daily shelling and attacks by Russia on the energy system of Ukraine, ensuring the stable operation of medical institutions during emergencies is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Health. Therefore, the Ministry of Health together with partners actively equip hospitals, clinics and outpatient clinics in different parts of the country with solar panels and provide generators.

Now Ukrainian healthcare institutions are provided with about 12 thousand generators for uninterrupted power supply. Already more than 90 hospitals have solar stations with panels. In general, by the end of the year, it is planned to equip 200 health care institutions with solar stations. The installation of solar power equipment will allow not only to use solar energy as a power source, but also to accumulate it. According to the amendments to the Law of Ukraine on the restoration and green transformation of the energy system of Ukraine, medical institutions will be able to implement the mechanism of an active consumer of electricity.

The Ministry of Health expresses its great gratitude to all partners for their help and effective cooperation. Despite the difficult time, together we make Ukraine strong and independent.

Recall, recently, the maternity hospital in Nikolaev was equipped with a solar station.
