On October 17, a new solar power plant was launched at the Sambir Central District Hospital (Lviv region, Ukraine), serving over 225,000 residents in district.
The installation includes a 55.68 kW solar station and 38.4 kWh backup battery – expected to generate around 55,000 kWh annually, and save the hospital about ₴500,000 per year.
The hospital houses critical-care units including operating theatres, intensive care, trauma, cardiology, a stroke unit and the emergency department – so uninterrupted power is vital.
The project was made by the Yellowblue Force Foundation under the “Light for Hospitals” programme, coordinated with the Ministry of health of Ukraine, with financial support from Citi Ukraine and technical partner NGO Ecoclub.
With stable, cleaner energy now assured, even during grid outage, the hospital can focus resources on patient care and improving conditions for staff and patients alike. Beyond addressing wartime challenges, this project is also an investment in Ukraine’s recovery and resilient healthcare infrastructure – one that will remain vital long after the war is over.
