A solar power plant with a capacity of 50 kW was installed in the Chertkovskaya central city hospital. It works together with batteries that accumulate the generated electricity. The station will guarantee the establishment more energy independence in the event of power outages.
“Since the beginning of a full-scale war, we have seen targeted attacks by Russia on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and civilian facilities, including hospitals. The constant bombing of the enemy jeopardizes the full operation of the medical system. Therefore, together with our partners, we are working to improve the autonomy and energy independence of our hospitals. So that patients could receive all the necessary medical care smoothly and in full even under critical conditions. We strengthen our energy security by installing solar stations. We express our gratitude to our partners for active cooperation and support of the Ukrainian health care system even in such difficult conditions. ” Viktor Lyashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine.
The cost of a solar power plant with batteries is more than two million hryvnias. The project within the framework of the “Light for Hospitals” program was implemented by the Yellowblue Force Foundation, coordinated by the Ministry of Health of здоровʼя of Ukraine and financially supported by Citi Ukraine. The installation of the power plant was accompanied by NGO Ecoclub.
“In today’s conditions, the support of medical institutions is extremely important, since even a minute of lack of electricity can cost a person’s life. Our goal is to do everything possible to ensure stable and uninterrupted operation of as many hospitals as possible in Ukraine. ” Julia Danishchuk, Head of the “Light for Hospitals” program at the YellowBlue Force Foundation.
It should be noted that more than 200 thousand patients visit the Chertkov Central City Hospital during the year.
“The hospital cannot function without a stable electricity supply. In addition to large expensive equipment, cardiac monitors, artificial lung ventilation devices, anesthesia stations during surgical interventions must also work. SPP guarantees greater energy security, we are confident that electricity will not disappear during critical situations. ” Rostislav Shulsky, director of the Chertkov Central City Hospital.
Given the conditions of daily shelling and attacks by Russia on the energy system of Ukraine, ensuring the stable operation of medical institutions during emergencies is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Health. Therefore, the Ministry of Health together with partners actively equip hospitals, clinics and outpatient clinics in different parts of the country with solar panels and provide generators.
Now Ukrainian healthcare institutions are provided with about 12 thousand. generators for uninterrupted power supply. Already almost 90 health facilities have solar stations with panels. In general, by the end of the year, it is planned to equip 200 health care institutions with solar stations.
The installation of solar power equipment will allow not only to use solar energy as a power source, but also to accumulate it. According to the amendments to the Law of Ukraine on the restoration and green transformation of the energy system of Ukraine, medical institutions will be able to implement the mechanism of an active consumer of electricity.
In particular, the solar power plant in the Chortkiv Central City Hospital is already helping to save community funds. According to the 2024 tariff, the municipality will retain about half a million hryvnias per year. Now the hospital is building a new rehabilitation department, the plans are to increase the existing solar power plant. During the year, the community plans to equip two preschool institutions and a rehabilitation center with solar power plants.
The Ministry of Health expresses its great gratitude to all partners for their help and effective cooperation. Despite the difficult time, together we make Ukraine strong and independent.
